Design and Research Processes

The first half of my bachelor was more dedicated to learning the design process. The second half was more towards learning how to do design research. I learned how to incorporate all kinds of methods in my processes. In my opinion, a design process is not about knowing the methodologies, it is about transforming the methodologies towards your goal and project. In the end, I would say I am more of a design researcher and use the design process to design probes for user research (research through design).

Course: From Idea to Design

Introduced me to the design process and taught me all kinds of ideation techniques like body storming, mind mapping, and pressure cookers. It gave me experience in how to walk through iterations and reflect after every step. It taught me that the process is sometimes more valuable than the end product.

Course: Design <> Research

Introduced me to research through design, it let me see that design does not only have to be market focussed but that it also can be focussed on generating knowledge. It also taught me how to find and write research papers.

Project 1: F'leau

This was the first project where I walked through a full design process with different iterations and multiple prototypes. I learned to implement research, user opinions in the design and define a problem statement to solve.
